The idea of the Beijing Winter Olympics torch relay lamp originated from the “first lamp in China” – the Changxin Palace lamp of the Western Han Dynasty. Changxin Palace lamp is a Western Han Palace lamp more than 2,000 years ago, with a light and gorgeous shape and ingenious design and environmental protection. “Long faith” is eternal faith, representing people’s pursuit and yearning for light and hope. The flying red ribbon wraps around the top of the tinder lamp, unifying with the visual image of the torch “flying”, symbolizing the Olympic passion of hard work. The square circle nested symbolizes the place of the heavenly circle, and the contrast between the silver metallic luster and the crystal clear glass expresses the perfect fit between the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation and the Olympic spirit. The Beijing Winter Olympics ceremonial tinder platform is designed with the concept of “carrying objects from the sky”, inspired by the traditional Chinese bronze ceremonial vessel-zun, and the shape style is harmonious with the torch and tinder lamp. The ceremonial tinder platform adopts the curved shape of Zun and the base is calm, symbolizing “all things on the ground”. The top stretches out widely, symbolizing the pure Olympic flame. The auspicious cloud pattern gradually turns into snowflakes from the downward direction, symbolizing the spiritual inheritance of the “City of Two Olympic Games”. The red ribbon flutters and wraps upwards to harmonize with the torch design. The colors of red and silver symbolize the fusion of tradition and modernity, technology and passion.

Li Jianye, the appearance designer of the Beijing Winter Olympics torch, introduced that in fact, the ceremonial tinder platform and the tinder lamp itself are related to the torch, both are a ribbon fluttering, running from the bottom up to the top, because it is a large system. The landscape design of the entire Winter Olympics from the logo, from the torch to the peripheral products, the concept is passionate and dynamic, and everyone can be connected through such a red ribbon. The ceremonial tinder stand is also a double-deck structure that ensures that the flame does not go out.

The design elements of the torchbearer’s uniform include the Olympic rings logo, the torch relay logo, and the core graphics of the torch relay landscape. The full uniform includes clothing, knitted hats, headbands, gloves and sneakers. In terms of color selection, the main color is taken from the red and yellow of the flame, and highlights the color of Chinese red on the basis of the main tone of white, and is lined with yellow, reflecting the passionate, warm and festive torch relay characteristics, and the red line from the cuff and the side to the soles of the feet are docked with the torch into a complete line, forming a sense of movement, fully demonstrating the high posture of the torchbearer chasing forward. In terms of fabric selection, it has antistatic, super breathable, quick-drying, waterproof and antibacterial functions.

Xie Chunlong, general manager of ANTA Olympic Business Department, introduced that in line with the concept and attitude of green Olympic Games, the torchbearer uniform also chose the process of waterless printing in the whole process, and the printing will not produce wastewater discharge and will not cause environmental pollution. At the same time, the torchbearer’s uniform adopts a 3D three-dimensional sports version cut, which can be more suitable for use in sports. At the same time, the main body of the torchbearer’s uniform has added a transparent white offset printing effect, which can present the three-dimensional sense of this white clothing.

After nearly 10 months of creative research and development, the Beijing Winter Olympic Torch Relay logo was officially announced. The logo design is inspired by the integration of ancient Chinese myths and traditional calligraphy art, reflecting the good wishes of building a community with a shared future for mankind, and highly condensing the Olympic spirit in Chinese hearts.

Zhang Yulong, design director of the Host Brand Design Center, introduced that the two colors of the Beijing Winter Olympics torch relay logo are taken from the colors of the national flag, representing vitality, enthusiasm and progress, inspiring people’s attitude of blooming passion and realizing their dreams.
