Among the many mobile lighting equipment, the headlamp is professional and reliable for outdoor adventure, but it is overlooked by many people. Many people feel that the use of headlamps is too single, not as convenient as flashlights. In fact, the use of headlamps can free hands to the greatest extent, and with the movement of the head, it is more free and convenient to point where to sweep. Especially in environments such as hiking and night running, caving and camping, polar crossing, etc., it is more handy. As the “first brother” of domestic outdoor sports lighting tools, Fenix (Phoenix) has also launched many headlamps, and currently has three series: lightweight HL, all-metal headlamp HM and professional HP. This article wants to share with you the newly launched HP16R strong light LED headlamp, let’s take a look at its performance:

Don’t mention it, just “straight to the point” to look at the headlamp body, when you first got the HP16R, you were attracted by its bright and eye-catching headband color. The reflective logo of the white font size, the gray and black straps with dense small holes, and the orange and yellow stripes at the edges together form the entire headband, making it both beautiful, remindful, and protect good breathability, and the entire headlamp with battery light strip has a total of 216 grams. Although it is not light, it is also suitable to wear on the head, and it does not feel uncomfortable and heavy.

The shell of the headlamp is gray engineering plastic, and there are three lamp heads distributed on it, of which the large main lamp uses an SST40 white LED, and the two auxiliary lights on the side are one XP-G3 S4 medium white LED and one 2835 red LED. It can last up to 50,000 hours and is said to be durable.

The main light is in spot mode, while the two auxiliary lights are in flood mode and red light, and its maximum brightness can reach 1700 lumens (spot lighting up to 1300 streams + flood lighting up to 400 lumens).

There are two buttons on the top of the headlamp with a large key area and moderate feedback. HP16R is a dual-switch independent control, left and right buttons are in charge of lighting mode and function mode respectively, long press any key to turn on/off, and gear switching can be single-pressed. The lighting key is the main light, which has four gears: spotlight low (50 lumens) / medium light (150 lumens) / high brightness (400 lumens) / extremely bright (1300 lumens); The function key is responsible for two small lights, which can be cycled between flood low/medium/high, and red/red flashing order. In fact, it is quite simple to search a few more times. In addition, the headlamp has automatic memory and “key lock” function, the former will default to the last gear every time the light is turned on; The latter prevents mispressing.

A detail should be clarified, the HP16R’s headlamp strap “Fenix” nameplate and the rear battery compartment cover back panel are designed with reflective strips and backlight strips respectively. In this way, when used at night, it will be very obvious from the back or the side, which plays a good role in safety protection.

The headlight strip and lamp holder are pre-assembled from the factory, and can be used directly when they are ready, without the need for assembly. When you need to adjust the lighting angle, you can move it by hand (support 60 degrees down to adjust the headlamp angle), and when bound to the head, you can adjust the headlight strap to a comfortable wearing position, which is generally quite convenient.

The silicone seal lined with the headband ensures a comfortable fit. In addition, this strap is adjustable. In addition to wearing it directly on the head, it can also be strapped to the helmet.

Charging indicator: The waterproof level of the entire fuselage has reached IP66 (two meters anti-drop), which can completely protect the intrusion of foreign objects such as dust/liquid, even if it is flushed with water, it will not cause damage. It’s okay to cope with the harsh weather environment outdoors such as morning dew, fog, sweat and rain.

HP16R adopts the design of separation of lamp head and battery, and the battery compartment on the back is the same as the head, and high-quality durable plastic and aluminum alloy integrated die-casting parts are selected, which has good heat dissipation performance, safe and reliable. In addition, you can see the large “X” shape heat dissipation grid on the back shell and the luminous strips at the corners.

The fuselage comes standard with a 3000mAh lithium-polymer battery pack and is compatible with 4 AA NiMH/alkaline batteries (in extreme environments where you want to continue to supply power and do not buy exclusive batteries, ordinary battery supply is especially important).

The opening of the warehouse cover still needs a certain prompt, it adopts the carrying buckle type, and the fixed is very firm. However, it comes with a rechargeable battery, and it will not be disassembled under normal circumstances. The battery indicator on the top of the headlamp lights up while charging, indicating the power status with solid green/red and flashing.

Open the rubber dust pad to charge through the Type-C port (2A, non-old MicroUSB port, like and praise), and it can be fully charged in about three hours.

The specific model of the battery is the Fenix ARB-LP3000 (3.7 volts). In terms of battery life, the main light can last 36 hours with low light, while the maximum battery life of the secondary light flood and red light can reach 300 and 600 hours respectively. Even if it is extremely bright, the main light spotlight can last for 4 hours. And the flood sublight is 8 hours. In addition, in terms of range, it can reach 260 meters in extremely bright mode, while the secondary light is 48 meters in high brightness. Exploring caves or urban adventures in extreme light is a good performance.

The Phoenix HP16R accumulates a lot of heat in extremely bright gears, so the headlamp has a built-in “intelligent temperature control” circuit, which automatically and gradually reduces the brightness when the temperature exceeds 65 degrees, and gradually returns to the brightness set in this gear after the temperature rises. In addition, when the battery voltage is too low, there will be a corresponding “low voltage warning”.

Let’s show off a few photos wearing reality TV:

Even with low brightness, close-up performance is worth noting. It’s perfectly fine to illuminate the surrounding scenery and environment. The following are the brightness effects when switching different grades in spot mode:

At the piers, both spot light and floodlight are turned on/highlight, and the bridge hole is bright. Details such as the abandoned objects and green plants of the soil bag in the distance can be clearly seen and distinguished. In case of emergency, you can switch to flashing red light, even in the mountains, people from afar can see the “SOS” distress signal emitted by the red light.

Running at night, there are no street lights on the riverside bank, and the whole road is dark, and it is no exaggeration to say that you can’t see your fingers. At this time, the headlamp is turned on and brightened, and the brightness of 400 lumens makes the surrounding vision instantly brightened. As you move with your footsteps, you can take care of the front of the road and on both sides. The paving effect is still good.

The following two pictures are the comparison of only turning on spot light and focusing and flooding: you can choose to open according to the actual environment and usage scenarios, and its far-reaching performance effect is really satisfactory.

The Fenix HP16R has three lamp heads and can switch between multiple gears. The addition of red light can also play a good signal emitting effect when exploring outdoors. Coupled with the long-lasting battery life brought by the large battery, it is a very practical portable lighting companion for hiking night runners and friends who like adventure.
