First, the difference between pink and color

Watercolor painting, simply put, is “a picture drawn with water and color”. From this conceptual point of view, in fact, what we usually call gouache and watercolor should belong to “watercolor painting”.

This is also one of the oldest painting methods in the history of human painting, and the ancient Egyptians used skillful watercolor painting methods when they drew the guide to the underworld (called the Book of the Dead or the Book of the Dead).

What distinguishes gouache from watercolor is actually determined by the transparency of these two materials when drawing pictures.

Simply put, when painted on other colors, you can clearly see the color below, which refers to transparent watercolor, and the color below is covered by opaque watercolor.

In general, transparent watercolor pigments have the following characteristics:

Second, the advantages of gouache

In fact, whether in the traditional painting system or the painting teaching system, there is no such classification as gouache. However, in order to adapt to the development of modern society, such as outdoor advertising painting and other painting needs, acrylic pigments and gouache pigments are gradually produced.

In the art examination, gouache painting has gradually appeared on the stage and has become the color material used by mainstream candidates, and even many art candidates once thought that the Guangdong Provincial Joint Examination must use gouache pigment for the exam. In the usual examination room, gouache does have more advantages than watercolor.

1. Gouache pigment is easy to cover, which gives students a higher error tolerance rate, which is a very important influencing factor for art students whose learning cycle is getting shorter and shorter;

2. Gouache color span is large, whether it is bright tones or gray and cold tones, the learning cost of gouache pigments is less, and the same effect will have much higher requirements for watercolor techniques;

3. The visual characteristics of gouache are stronger than watercolor painting, watercolor painting is better than the effect of water stain smudging, but this effect is not easy to show in the examination room, and gouache with strong color contrast is very suitable.

Third, it varies from person to person and according to local conditions

Affected by a variety of factors, watercolor painting is becoming more and more rare in the examination room. But of course, this does not mean that the watercolor painting in the joint examination must not be delicious.

Especially in the past two years of the fierce reform of the Guangdong art examination, breaking the routine use of watercolor examination may have better results. But of course, the score must be based on the picture effect. As long as the graphics show off your basic abilities, the score won’t be too low.

Fourth, the color step

1. Determine the composition form, start a pencil draft, pay attention to the primary and secondary relationship of objects, the proportion and occlusion relationship between objects.

2. Paint the color with a large pen. Because this model painting is lighter in color than the background, it is enough to lay out the color from the main object and lay out the large relationship, paying attention to the layers of light, gray, dark, reflection, and projection. Then lay the background, the background is in place again, color grading pay attention to the use of contrasting colors and environmental colors, and play a little water droplets while it is semi-dry to make the background blurred and breathable. In the interlining, we must pay attention to the relationship between the front, middle and back space, and also need to lay the ambient color and the structure of the interlining while wet.

3. Lay the countertop, project the objects behind, pay attention to the ambient color, and the virtual and real changes, and then draw small objects, strive to be in place again, and bring the heavy color of the pot mouth.

4. Depict the subject, pay attention to the control of the sketch relationship and color relationship, and also have a bottom in the sense of rhythm between the subject. Detailed performance, excessive gray surface, need careful observation and understanding of the relationship between the body, the shape should be accurate and full, the two bitter melons are solid before and after, and the purity of the back is treated lower.

5. Deeply portray the details of the subject, adjust the transition between the bright part and the dark part, deal with the shape of the highlights, pay attention to adjusting the contrast relationship between cold and warm and pure gray of the overall picture, and adjust the level of the interlining and the relationship between virtual and real space. Finally, step back more to observe the overall effect of the picture, think more and use less pen.
